Malibu
We finally found our way to Malibu! We wanted to go to Malibu a few months ago, but since we didn’t have a car, we decided to put it off until later. The car situation is the same today, but Stefan was able to take a few days off, so we decided to take an Uber.
A ride to Malibu takes about 40-50 minutes and you can drive along the coast with a perfect view of the ocean.
We started at the Malibu Pier where there is the Malibu Farm Restaurant, the Malibu Farm Cafe and a cute little store. We planned to have a snack later at the Malibu Cafe and headed down the stairs to the beach.
What a beach! Los Angeles has beautiful beaches, but this beach in Malibu is exceptional. It is smaller, but maybe that is why it is so special. Many surfers were waiting for the perfect wave and we found many shells and crabs in the sand. On the right side of the beach was a nature reserve where different species of birds were breeding. The atmosphere was very calm, a few people were lying in the sun.
So we walked along the water, admiring the great nature around us, until we reached the end of the beach. A 10 minute walk away is Malibu Village, an area with many stores and restaurants, including my favorite smoothie store sunlife organics. Americans definitely know how to make smoothies.
Malibu Village
After our short break in the Village we wanted to have a look at the houses of the rich. According to Google Maps, you could also see the „two and a half men“ house. And sure, we wanted to see it.
Unfortunately, we had to find out that non-residents have no access to the street. A little disappointed we made our way back to the beach.
But at the beach I realized that this particular road ends at the beach, but of course there was a fence. Getting there by land was not possible, but there is the way through the water. So we went down to the water and snuck behind the fence and voila, we were on the beach side of the rich people’s houses. There was no one there. The beach was completely empty and we could see the back of the houses. Fabulous. We enjoyed the quiet and listened to the waves until we made our way back to the „normal“ beach and rested in the sun for a bit.
I’ve never been surfing, but looking at the surfers in the water really makes me want to try it myself one day.
After people watching and spending time in the sun, we headed back to the pier for a snack. Unfortunately, the Malibu Farm Cafe was already closed, so we opted for an early dinner at the Malibu Farm Restaurant. We got a great table with an incredible view of the ocean. What a beautiful place. A day in Malibu is like a little vacation. After dinner, we enjoyed golden hour on the pier before heading home.
Malibu will see us again soon.
