Hollywood Boulevard
Last weekend, we finally made a trip to Hollywood Boulevard. I was so excited to finally discover this part of the city. After a 40 minute Uber ride we finally got dropped off at the beginning of the Walk of Fame. Hollywood Boulevard was closed because of the Pride of Month and therefore car-free. So we set off and I anxiously looked at the first stars. The further we went, the more people came towards us and it became more and more bustling. On both sides lined up a theater to the next and before we knew it we were surrounded by street vendors and tourists. The stars of the Walk of Fames have become incidental, or had been partially covered with restaurant tables and chairs.
So at some point we just drifted, listened to the music, and watched the people around us. Then I noticed how behind some public toilets the famous Hollywood Sign was visible. Great, my beloved Hollywood Sign, which I was so excited to see, I see for the first time properly in such a setting.
I must honestly say that I imagined my trip to Hollywood differently. Somehow more glamorous. Instead, everything seemed a little dirty. I felt a little sorry for the famous people who were immortalized on the Walk of Fame and disappeared under the stands of some souvenir sellers.
But even if my expectations were a little disappointed, the Walk of Fame is a place you have to see when you are in Los Angeles. And if you have the chance, buy tickets for one of the shows and see a theater from the inside.
And luckily there are other places from where you can admire the Hollywood Sign for example the way to the Griffith Observatory.
Griffith Observatory
When we reached the end of the hustle and bustle, we decided to walk up to the Griffith Observatory. So we took the next Uber and got a ride to one of the trails that lead to the hill where Griffith is located.
It was really warm, but we also enjoyed it so much to finally be in the middle of nature and to leave the crazy hustle and bustle behind us.
And when I didn’t expect it at all, a great viewpoint of the Hollywood Sign opened up in front of us. It is quite a way until you have finally reached the Griffith, but you are rewarded with incredibly great views.
The building itself is also absolutely worth seeing. Admission is free, only for some exhibitions you have to pay. For friends of astronomy an absolute must. But it’s also worth it just for the view, especially if you like watching sunsets. So, in the end, we could look back on an eventful day that definitely ended better than expected.
