Hermosa Beach
I think I discovered a new favorite place in LA. I guess it’s more popular with locals, but after 4 month we are definitely no tourist anymore. The place I am talking about is the Hermosa Beach area. We went there for the second time yesterday, and the vibe there is very different than the rest of LA we’ve seen so far. Hermosa Beach is part of the South Bay and the atmosphere feel like vacation. You see people in swimwear and with surfboards before you can see the ocean.
On the street leading to the pier there are many restaurants, cafes and stores, but it is not crowded like Santa Monica or Venice. As you walk away from the beach, you can walk up a small hill and find cute little stores on both sides of the street.
The first time we were there, we spent a few hours on the beach watching a beach volleyball-tournament. It’s sometimes hard to imagine that many people here just grew up. Here, people go to play volleyball on the beach several times a week, just as they go to the soccer field or play handball in a hall in Germany.
While the volleyball-tournament was going on, we decided to have an ice cream at Capri Gelato & Coffee Bar and then a coffee at Source.
We are very fortunate…
to have friends in the area and that is always a good reason to visit Hermosa.
So yesterday we had dinner with our friends and then went to The Lighthouse Cafe where there was supposed to be live music that night. Americans definitely know how to party! A single man with his guitar managed to create a great atmosphere and motivated the crowd to sing several choruses. I didn’t expect it to be so great when my friend told me we could go to the bar after dinner.
After the musician was done performing, a DJane took over and continued with the party.
Long story short, we had a great evening/night in a great atmosphere and are already planning our next trip to Hermosa Beach.
